This is a wonderful portrait, dynamic composition and interesting lighting (choosing the right time of day, definitely helped). Setting your camera for a shallow depth of field was essential in making this successful, it keeps our focus on the person and not the building. I do look at the building, especially because of the red color block on the stairs, but my eyes first engage with the person.
