  2. Both of these photographs are successful black and white images. The top image has a great tonal range (a pure white, a deep black and many shades of gray in between). I also enjoy the ethereal quality of light and all of the repeating shapes and patterns (esp. the rectangle).

    The butterfly lamp is also well suited for black and white. The bead curtains (?) really catch the light in a dynamic way. It starts to look like the space is trying to mimic a natural scene with butterflies and pouring down rain. I think this image would be made even stronger by cropping just under the light at the top, cropping out the black triangle in the corner and the light source itself.
